Looking for something to do this weekend.  Muswell Hill Creatives are hosting a Make and Mend Festival at Hornsey Parish Church Hall at Cranley Gardens N10.

This event is about making and mending, but also about sustainability and supporting local businesses.  Learn techniques for keeping items in use for longer and reducing waste.  Food comes courtesy of The Whole Bowl while Muswell Hillbilly Brewers offer locally brewed beers – soft drinks also available.  And if you bring along some containers you will be able to take advantage of The Peoples Pantry who will be parked up outside.

Workshops include Japanese Stitching and Mending, Gel Printing, Paper Lampshade Making, Candle Making, Bookbinding, B headed Gemstone Necklace Making and Clothes Upcycling.  Some places on workshops will be available for walk ins, but it is advisable to book on the MHC website.

Demos will include Linocut Printing, Knitwear Darning and Mending, and of course my good self with leather work skills.  I will also be talking all things leather repairs, what I can and cannot work on.  Yes there are different types of leather, and different skill sets in repairing them all.  Expect to hear about a lot of chairs getting repaired, and why straps and fittings on bags often break.   I can also talk about why leather is one of the most environmentally friendly products to use.

More info on the MHC website

Not to mention that there will be work on sale by: Hilary Sketches, Queenie OrganicsRomor Designs, The Idle Bindery, Art With Mollie, Crouch End Candles, Papershades, Wyckoff Smith Jewellery, Night Press, Steph Rubbo Saddlery & Leather Work and Bailey and Free.
