One for the test cricket fans, a new limited edition of cricket ball leather items to be showcased at Craft Festival.
The last season saw a lot of discussion over the longevity of the Duke cricket ball in test matches. The balls were going out of shape far more quickly than expected. This is something that any member of the Barmy Army or English cricket fan will have heard discussed in match commentary. The cause was attributed to the leather being used.
As a result, Spire Leather declared a batch of leather bends as Out of Specification and offered them for sale. There were a limited number available, and I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase one. The opportunity to buy any more of this leather has now passed, so anything made from this will be not be repeatable.
I have made up the pictured Passport Travel Wallet and a Laptop Sleeve and will have them with me at Craft Festival in Cheltenham Town Hall on 10 – 12 March 2023. In recognition of the leather’s origins I have added decorative hand stitching in the same style seen on cricket balls.
This will be the first opportunity to view a truly original and bespoke item that has a story that resonates with cricket lovers. I have sufficient leather remaining to make another two lap top sleeves and some wallets. If you are interested, but unable to attend Craft Festival use the contact form for a chance to order a great limited edition gift for a cricket fan.
