An exciting announcement this week. I was accepted into the Find A Maker family, just in time for Makers Week from 16-20 May 2022.
Who are Find A Maker
Find A Maker are a prestigious online directory that specialises in designers and makers of some truly fabulous craft work. They now have over 340 of the finest craft makers in their community. Conceived to showcase a brilliant collection of the finest craft makers, galleries and craft organisations at a time when we couldn’t always get to them in person. Crafts represented include ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery, metal, wood, plastics, mixed media, leather, recycled materials, printmaking and paper of the highest standard.
It’s curated by the lovely team from Craft Festival who search out the finest makers, craft galleries and craft organisations. Getting accepted is tough, they typically turn away 70% of applicants as not compatible with their curatorial style.
With Craft Festival have spent 19 years creating some of the most beautiful craft festivals in Europe. So they have gathered a loyal and knowledgeable audience of followers that love and appreciate skilfully, handmade objects. Their stated aim is ” to connect our audience with a carefully curated collection of the finest makers, regardless of where they are based.”
Some great members who you might like
The site is a great way to see the work of people you might not be able to visit in person. Here is a selection of a few of my favourites, disclaimer – bright colours and textures are what attract me most.
Woodworkers – Ash and Plumb – I just love the way they turn flaws in the wood into a feature.
Jewellery – Carin Lindberg Jewellery – it’s the textures that she gets that I love
Mixed Media – Keeley Traae Design – I just want to pick these up and play with them
Textiles – Jenny Jackson Design – the colours and texture again
Paper and Print – John Bloor Printmaker – Johns stall was near mine at Cheltenham Craft Festival, and I just loved his work
