… that I have my first market date for 2021 confirmed.

21 – 23 May will see me back at Handmade in Highgate, along with a fabulous selection of other designer/makers. Full details will follow soon.

Of course that is assuming that the recently announced emergence from lockdown isn’t put back.

I will be back to see you all, and hope to show off examples of what I have been working on over lockdown. I was fortunate enough to have a full order book at Christmas time, and much of the work kept me busy over January and February this year.

Large Rachel Satchel in Sedgwick's Conker English Bridle leather by Steph Rubbo Saddlery

Extra Large Rachel Satchel, bespoke commission

Bags

… were a big feature, I was working on two “Rachel” satchels, the green one pictured, and an extra large one in conker Sedgwick’s english bridle leather. The green one had yellow stitching, and a bright green nappa lining for that extra “pop”. The conker satchel was one of the bigger bags I have made, and is stunning. For this one I reversed the nappa lining. I usually glue the nappa suede side out as I love the look and feel of it, but as the customer advised it will be used to carry water bottles it will need to stand up to extra wear and tear, so it was lined with the grain side out to make it easier to wipe up spills. As always it was hand stitched, this time using burgundy linen thread.

Then there was the large messenger bag in black Dakota leather. This was the first time I had used this leather for a bag, and it was lovely to work with. The leather has a great feel, and is going to gain a fabulous patina as it ages. Designed to be used as a carry bag for a 15″ laptop, it had a top handle as well as a shoulder strap, and was lined in blue nappa. One of my favourites, and I am thinking I need a new bag myself, and this would be a nice one for my needs.

Red and black box bags always prove popular, and there was one of these in the mix also. This time a medium one but the size was slightly tweaked to the customers requirements. I was back to Sedgwick’s bridle leather for this one.

All of these bags were bespoke and so could be customised to suit the customer’s needs.
